Data DescriptionNOAA AVHRR Clear-Sky Products over Oceans (ACSPO): Sea Surface Temperature, Clear Sky Radiances, and Aerosol Optical Depth for the Global Ocean, 2011 - present - Advanced Clear Sky Processor over Oceans (ACSPO) - generates Sea Surface Temperature product files from multiple platforms and sensors. The products available at the NOAA Comprehensive Large Array-data Stewardship System (CLASS; www.class.noaa.gov) are from the AVHRR instrument aboard the older POES series of spacecrafts, as well as from the European Metop mission. Beginning on October 14, 2017, the ASCPO data changed formats from HDF4 to NetCDF4 to adhere to the Group for High Resolution SST (GHRSST) GDS2 data specification. Two spatial resolutions had been provided, 4 km from GAC data and 1 km from the Metop FRAC data. Other parameters that can be found in the product files can include (dependent on date and product type) satellite and solar geometry (solar and satellite zenith angles and relative azimuth angles), thermal band brightness temperatures, visible band albedos, and bit flags indicating viewing conditions such as cloud, day/night, sun glint, etc. Also included in the current GHRSST files are an SST quality indicator, delta SST compared to a reference SST from a current SST analysis from an independent source, numerical weather model forecast u and v wind, as well as single sensor error statistics (SSES) (bias and standard deviation) at each pixel. Notes(04/12/2022) - Beginning October 14, 2017, ASCPO data changed formats from HDF4 to NetCDF4 to adhere to the Group for High Resolution SST (GHRSST) GDS2 data specification. ACSPO FRAC (1km): available from 2012 through 2017 (MetOp-A/B only). ACSPO GAC (4km): available from 2012 through 2017 (NOAA-18/19 and MetOp-A/B). ACSPO GAC (4km GHRSST L2P): available from 2018 to 2019 (NOAA-18/19 and MetOp-A/B). ACSPO FRAC (1km GHRSST L2P): available from 2018 to present (MetOp series). ACSPO AVHRR SST L3U: available from Jan 9, 2022 to present (MetOp-B/C). The NOAA ACSPO VIIRS SST product which began on 2014-05-19 can be accessed via NOAA NCEI at https://doi.org/10.7289/V5PR7SX5. |
